2009 Style Resolutions
On January 1, millions of people around the globe will pledge that over the next 12 months they will get fit, reduce debts, quit smoking, and fix the problems plaguing most of us. By the end of January, however, most people will have abandoned their objectives altogether (until next year, that is). In 2009, instead of struggling with the same old New Year's resolutions, make some that will actually be fun to keep by vowing to make it your year of style. And to help you put your most stylish foot forward, we’ve come up with our top 10 2009 style resolutions. Read on to be one step closer to a more fashionable you.
No.10 - Buy a custom-made garment
Splurge on a tailor-made garment in 2009. If a suit is too expensive, then have one dress shirt made in a neutral color, like white, gray or black. You’ll never look as sharp as when you don apparel that was made specifically for you. Just make sure you do your research on the tailor so that you don’t end up with a suit that looks like it’s straight out of 1982.
No.9 - Try a new hairstyle
Given the tough financial times that lie ahead, switching up your hairstyle or your facial hair will be relatively inexpensive compared to overhauling your wardrobe. In fact, changing your hairstyle will usually cost you a fraction of what you would normally pay for a dress shirt, but it will give you a fresh new look.
No.8 - Reorganize your closet
Organizing yourself makes getting dressed in the morning so much easier. You’ll be able to see all your clothes, so you’ll get more wear out of the pieces you own and you’ll also be more likely to combine them in ways you haven’t before. Here’s a good tip: Start by throwing out anything you haven’t worn since 2007.
No.7 - Take care of your shoes
Your whole appearance will be more polished if you clean the scuffs off your shoes on a regular basis. Plus, promptly having shoes fixed when wear and tear occurs will make them last longer, and it will make them appear new again -- effectively saving you the cost of having to buy another pair.
No.6 - Get to know a fashionista
Enlist the services of your most fashionable female friend when you’re going on a major shopping trip. Most girls will be flattered that you trust their style instincts and their company will provide you with a sounding board for whether or not your selections work. Plus, having a woman’s perspective will help you understand what the fairer sex wants to see you wearing.
